Fasting

In our fast-paced world where food is just a doorstep delivery away, sometimes giving your digestion a break can do wonders for you physically and mentally. Exploring different fasting methods might initially seem daunting, but it’s crucial to give your body a breather from the nonstop, energy-intensive process of digestion.

A mild fast can be as simple as skipping lunch or waiting several hours after waking to eat, or it can be a full-on-21-day fast at a specialized facility to give your body a total reset.

One of the key advantages of fasting, Autophagy, is its cellular repair and regeneration process. During fasting periods, the body capitalizes on the downtime to recycle damaged cells and to replace them with healthier ones. Additionally, fasting promotes the production of Brain-Derived
Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), a crucial protein for triggering neuroplasticity and supporting the growth and survival of neurons. Research suggests that increased levels of BDNF are associated with improved cognitive function and can even serve as a mood enhancer, with low levels being linked to depression. Moreover, fasting has been shown to enhance insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation and potentially extend longevity.

Personally, I’ve had many people recommend fasting to me for chronic inflammation, and I was hesitant until I had completed the WILDFIT challenge and discovered the benefits fasting brought to my health. Fasting comes in various stages, depending on the chosen method. For me, fasting for 2 to 3 days helps keep my mind sharp and focused as my body prioritizes cognitive function over digestion. Remember, staying hydrated is crucial during fasting periods, so be sure to drink plenty of water.

I hope the above has inspired you to embrace fasting and to discover for yourself the transformative benefits for both mind and body.

Thank you for reading. With warmest wishes, Your WILDFIT coach.
